Surviving Your First Day

Your first day decides a lot on One Life - you only get one. Here's a simple plan to get through it safely.

TipThere's no rush. A slow, careful first day beats a fast one that ends in a death screen.

Before the first night#

  1. Punch some trees. Get a stack of logs, then make a crafting table, sticks and wooden tools.
  2. Upgrade to stone. Stone pickaxe, sword and axe as soon as you can - they're much better than wood.
  3. Find food. Kill a few animals (cows, pigs, sheep, chickens) and cook the meat. Raw food is barely worth eating.
  4. Kill a few sheep for wool - three wool and some planks make a bed, so you can skip the night.
  5. Build a small shelter before sunset. Even a dirt hut with a door and a torch is enough.

Your first night#

  • Sleep in your bed as soon as night falls - it skips the night and sets your spawn point.
  • If you can't sleep, stay inside. Mine down into the floor of your shelter for stone and coal, but never dig straight down.
  • Light everything up. Mobs spawn in the dark - torches around your base keep it safe.

Your first days#

  • Get iron as early as you can: iron armor, an iron pickaxe and a shield make you far harder to kill.
  • Make a water bucket - it saves you from falls, lava and fire.
  • Keep food in your inventory at all times and eat before your hunger bar gets low, so your health keeps regenerating.
  • Don't fight at night unless you have to.

One Life essentials#

  • Link your account with /link so you can use tickets and the wiki.
  • Write a will with /setwill 1 <message> - just in case. See Wills.
  • Find friends - Teams give you a private chat and stop accidental combat logs between you.
  • Read the rules - see Server Rules.
