The Store Is Back, Why the Server Lags & Our Plan to Fix It

Good news first: the store is back online! 💎 And since many of you have noticed the lag spikes lately, we want to explain what causes them and what we're planning to do about it.

💎 The Store Is Back Online

You can buy ranks again! We've added a different payout method, so the money you donate through rank purchases actually reaches us.

What happened with PayPal:

• 🔒 PayPal is still holding around €200 of our money, and we still can't withdraw it
• 📄 We've uploaded our ID card to PayPal in the hope that they release it
• ⚠️ It's possible this money is lost for good

🐢 Why the Server Sometimes Lags

One Life runs on a VPS: a Virtual Private Server. It feels like our own machine, but it's actually one physical server shared with other people, each running their own servers.

All of those servers read and write to the same disk. When the disk gets busy because of someone else, our server has to wait, and that shows up as a lag spike. The worst part: it often hits at important moments, like when the server is saving player data.

We've already done what we can on our side: most of our plugins now save in the background, so a slow disk no longer freezes the whole server. But as long as we share a disk with others, we can't fully get rid of these spikes.

🖥️ The Plan: Our Own Dedicated Server

The money PayPal is holding was meant for upgrading the server again. This time, instead of moving to yet another provider, the plan is to get a dedicated server: a machine that's ours alone, so no one else's servers can slow One Life down.

That makes the PayPal situation extra painful. If those funds are lost, it'll take a bit longer to get there, but the goal stays the same: One Life Hardcore running smoothly, all the time. Every rank purchase brings us closer. 🙏

🗳️ Still Time to Vote: The New Server's World

The poll for Semi One Life Hardcore is still open. It's the same poll as in our last update, so if you already voted there, your vote is counted. You can still change it here.

• 🏘️ Vanilla Structures: only the structures you know from vanilla Minecraft
• 🏰 Advanced Structures: bigger, more advanced structures to explore, and harder mobs

⏰ The poll closes on Sunday 25 October. This is one of a few votes over the coming weeks that shape the new server.
