Why a dedicated server
One rule comes before everything else: One Life Hardcore SMP has to run smoothly. No TPS drops, no MSPT spikes, no ping problems. When one mistake ends your run, the server can never be the reason.
Rock-solid performance
A machine of our own means steady TPS and MSPT with plenty of headroom, instead of running close to the limit on shared hardware.
Better ping, everywhere
A 2 Gbps connection keeps the game responsive for players in Europe and in the USA.
Room to grow
Built for around 50 players today, with 100 online at once as the goal, and 150 further down the road.
One Life is here for the long run. Too many hardcore servers launch, cash in and disappear a month later. This one isn't going anywhere: the plan is a complete network that keeps growing for years.
The hardware
One dedicated machine runs the entire network: the proxy, the lobby and every server on it.
The second server
A second hardcore server joins the network, right next to One Life. One Life Hardcore SMP itself stays exactly the way it is. There are two ideas for server [2], only one will be built, and the community is choosing which in our poll right now.
Semi Hardcore
- Dying gets you a 2-week ban, not a permanent one.
- Fully custom terrain in the Overworld, the Nether and the End.
- A ton of extra custom features that don't fit One Life itself.
Extreme Hardcore
- Permanent death, just like One Life.
- No passive healing. Only potions, golden apples and god apples heal you.
- A revive system: a ritual or a crafting recipe to bring a fallen friend back.
- Fully custom terrain in the Overworld, the Nether and the End.
Whichever wins, server [2] gives players somewhere to go after a death on server [1], so nobody has to leave the network to keep playing. And it won't stop at one poll: how the new server plays, death rules included, is largely up to the community.
One shared network
Both hardcore servers live in one network, with one entrance and one lobby. You join once, and pick where to play from there.
An interactive lobby
The lobby is being rebuilt into a place you actually explore, with a portal to each server. Step into [1] for One Life Hardcore SMP or [2] for the new server.
One community
Same friends, same Discord, same website and wiki. Your teams and your story don't split in two.
Ranks that carry over
Supporter ranks work on both servers, perks included. One vote gives you the Voter rank on both. Playtime ranks are earned fresh on each server.
A death isn't goodbye
Fell on server [1]? Server [2] is one portal away in the lobby, with the same community waiting for you.
Already in progress
Work on the network has already started, and server [2] is taking shape on our test server. This is what's underway right now.

The custom terrain is back
Server [2] already has a fresh world on the newest Minecraft version, with custom terrain in all three dimensions, every biome and cave, and our own Dappled Forest: an autumn forest of red, orange and yellow poplars with abandoned camps to find.
Ranks and votes, linked
Ranks and votes already carry over between the servers, so everything you earn will count on server [2] from day one.
A brand-new lobby
The interactive lobby is in the works, and builders can already build it with Axiom. Good at building? Apply as a builder.
You're choosing server [2]
Semi or Extreme Hardcore? The poll is open now. Find it in our latest update and cast your vote.
A smoother One Life
Done: the server is tuned for fewer lag spikes, and a slow disk can't freeze the game anymore.
The network is live
The proxy and the lobby are already in front of One Life today. Adding server [2] means plugging it into a setup that already works.

Keeping it running
A dedicated server costs close to €200 a month. That's a real commitment, and we want to be open about how it works.
- We're still early, and nobody is expected to buy a rank the moment they start playing.
- The server doesn't need to pay for itself every single month.
- Part of the cost comes out of my own pocket, and that's fine.
- Supporter ranks help keep everything online for the long run, and they'll count across the whole network. They're always cosmetic: never an advantage in the game.

One Life runs smoothly
Stability came first, and it's done: One Life Hardcore SMP has been tuned for fewer lag spikes, and a slow disk can no longer freeze the game. We keep a close eye on it every day.

Server [2] and the new lobby
What we're working on right now. Semi or Extreme Hardcore, whichever the community picks, opens next to One Life, with the new lobby to choose between them. There'll be a public play test before launch.

A good, stable dedicated server
The whole network moves to a dedicated machine of its own. There are two ways to get there, and the choice decides how long it takes:
From a providerRented from a hosting company. The quickest route: the machine is ready within days, and the provider handles the hardware.Self-hostedOur own hardware, fully under our control, but it takes a lot longer: buying the parts, building the machine, setting up the internet connection and the infrastructure around it (networking, security, backups, power) and much, much more before a single player joins.Either way, it takes money to make it happen. Every supporter rank helps us get there, and your support is always appreciated. Visit the store

Maybe more
Possibly a small modded server, and private servers for friends. Ideas for later, once the hardcore network is in great shape.
Plans can change. Dates are estimates, and we'll share every step in our updates and on Discord as it happens.
